If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be spending my days surrounded by yarn, colour charts, workshop plans, and the gentle chaos of setting up a real shop, I probably would’ve laughed, thought about it, then carried on crocheting. But here I am! The Wooly Nook has become a reality, stitch by stitch, shelf by shelf and the process has been far more positive than I ever imagined.
From Daydream to Doing
The idea of The Wooly Nook has been quietly knitting itself together for a long time. It started as a whisper a dream for the distant future (one that I didn’t really believe would happen if I am honest) and then very quickly appeared after a snap decision. Once I finally said, “Alright then, let’s do this,” everything seemed to click into place….. very very quickly!
Finding the space. Designing the layout. Choosing the yarns and tools that felt just right. Planning workshops that would welcome absolute beginners, curious dabblers, and seasoned makers alike was a process that I have absolutley loved.
Every step has been so much fun already. It has been satisfying, purposeful, and full of nerves and excitement..
The Unexpected Joys
What’s surprised me most is how positive the whole journey has been. Setting up a shop is supposed to be stressful, isn’t it? But instead, it’s been a burst of small wins:
-
Meeting local makers and suppliers who instantly understood the vision
-
Watching the space transform from “empty unit” to “cosy crafting haven”
-
Seeing the first deliveries arrive (yes, I may have squealed and squished)
-
Hearing people in Penrith say, “We can’t wait for you to open!” and “This is what Penrith has needed!”
-
It has also brought new and unexpected friendships that have just made everything even better.
There’s something amazing about building a place that feels like it already belongs, like the community has been waiting for it as much as I have. It has really touched me and just confirmed that I have made the right decision after the doubts had crept in.
A Space Filled With Heart
The Wooly Nook isn’t just a shop. It’s becoming a place where creativity feels safe, where people can slow down, breathe out, and make something with their hands. It feels like place where mistakes are part of the fun, where cups of tea and coffee are practically mandatory.
Setting it up has reminded me why I love this world of fibre arts so much. It’s not just about yarn. It’s about connection, confidence, and the quiet joy of making something that didn’t exist before.
Looking Ahead With Excitement
There’s still plenty to do in the shop shelves to top up, workshops to finalise, finishing touches to add but I am getting there and the excitement is real. Every day brings a new little milestone, and each one makes the opening feel like it was 100% the right decision.
The Wooly Nook is growing into exactly what I hoped it would be: a warm, welcoming space where creativity can flourish. And if the journey so far is anything to go by, the best is still to come.
